William Poynter joined HealthSouth in March 2009. Poynter leads the group as it finds exceptional talent by targeting multiple and diverse sources enhance to HealthSouth’s workforce, managing cross-divisional issues and opportunities, and evaluating new technology and business models. The group is responsible for recruiting corporate and hospital positions, to include college and campus recruiting strategies, as well as international clinical recruiting. In just over two years, Poynter has successfully implemented Taleo, SkillSurvey reference checks, ESS background checks, Perpetual CRM, and is in the process of using HireVue throughout HealthSouth.
During his tenure, Mr. Poynter has overseen HealthSouth’s strategic recruiting plans which include a staff of 15 recruiters and managers.
HealthSouth is the nation's largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in terms of revenues, number of hospitals, and patients treated and discharged. HealthSouth operates 99 hospitals in 26 states across the country and in Puerto Rico, with 23,000 employees.
Poynter joined HealthSouth from Smith & Nephew, where he was the Director, Strategic Recruiting. In that position his responsibilities included global oversight of all corporate recruiting including due diligence efforts for mergers and acquisitions, development of strategies for new technology ventures, and the collaboration of recruiting initiatives across business units. Smith & Nephew is a 150 year old company that has developed advanced medical devices for healthcare professionals around the world. Smith & Nephew conducts business in 90 countries worldwide and generate annual sales of $4 billion.
Poynter received his M.B.A. from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and holds a B.B.A. from University of Mississippi.
