As a director of new technology incubation for the global Microsoft Digital business, I lead teams that focus on the business opportunity for new and emerging technologies. Although I have been at Microsoft for over 15 years in a variety of roles in evangelism, strategic alliances, program management, business development, and innovation initiative management – I also have a solid grounding in software development and architecture from previous roles building electronic commerce and supply chain management systems in the early days of the web.
Meeting new people and digging into the latest technology to apply it to drive real business value is the area where I find the most intellectual reward. Every year it seems like there is always another fascinating opportunity to find out how to apply the latest advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, AR/VR, blockchain, video streaming, old software architecture patterns made new, and many more genuinely cool technologies. Applying resources to first understand, plan a path forward, and then prove our hypothesis of where the real value lies provides a constant stream of reward.
